The 1989 vintage conditions for Mosel in Germany were characterised by a warm spring and an almost subtropical summer with high humidity, causing a lot of work during the growing season due to mildew and early botrytis. Very early harvest but lots of botrytis. The wines are rich, big and concentrated. Top year for sweet wines of all grades - Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese that have a intense richeness and a slightly lower acidity than 1988. Dry wines were also excellent. A limited quantity of Eiswein wines were produced but these are of a lighter and softer style than typical.
