An excellent year for all wines from Kabinetts through to Trockenbeerenauslesen. The weather was variable during spring but this was followed a very warm and dry summer, with August in particular witnessing very high temperatures. The promise of a great vintage was dampened by the heavy rains that fell throughout Germany during September. However, the weather was nigh on perfect throughout October and those who harvested late have produced wines of purity and elegance.
All regions were successful, although the wines of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer are arguably the finest of the vintage. The late harvest Auslese and Trockenbeerenlauslesen are outstanding, with the autumn weather conditions being ideally suited to the development of botrytis.
