A very satisfactory, abundant vintage for New Zealand wines, with Marlborough, Hawke's Bay and Gisborne being the most successful regions.
There were spring frosts in November in Central Otago which have reduced the yields of the region's Pinot Noir. Summer was generally dry and warm throughout the country, but cool, windy and wet weather did delay the harvest in some regions. The weather then took a turn for the better however leading to a bumper harvest of healthy, ripe grapes. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are particularly successful.
