Unquestionably a very good vintage for white Burgundy wines, with large quantities of concentrated and well-structured examples being produced. The best and most long-lived ambassadors of the vintage hailed from the Montrachet, the Pulignys were indeed particularly successful.
Winter was unusually cold and was followed by a mild spring. Summer was hot and dry with the exception of some storms in late August and in the middle of September. Harvesting began at the end of September, with those growers who picked late producing the best wines.
The best growers produced aromatically rich and ripe wines with considerable finesse and elegance, that were drinking well into the late 2000s.
