An above-average year for White Burgundy, with some very good wines being produced. In mid-June a violent hailstorm struck the Côte de Beaune and particularly affected vineyards in St Aubin, Blagny, Meursault, and Puligny Montrachet. This had a catastrophic effect on yields and some vineyards (especially in the Premier Cru sites in Meursault) lost over 50% of their crop.
Overshadowed by the more opulent 1992s and 1994s, the 1993s have actually turned out to have more staying power and in many cases the wines are preferable. Most of the top wines are delicious now.
