A year that produced a large crop of good quality wines, with pride of place going to the Chenin Blanc-based sweet wines. Winter was mild and was followed by a warm and predominantly dry spring. The weather remained good throughout the summer and the harvest began in mid-September and continued through into November for the botryised Chenin Blancs.
The Cabernet Franc based-reds are powerful and well structured, displaying good levels of ripe fruit bolstered by firm but supple tannins. The sweet whites were extremely rich, with the best examples displaying a marvellous balance of ripe botryised fruit and mouth-watering acidity. Arguably the greatest vintage for sweet Loire whites since 1959.
