Another fine vintage in Alsace, producing wines of concentration and richness, though perhaps falling just short of 1997`s quality. The weather was fairly uneven throughout the year - April was cool, May was very hot and dry and June and July were damp and cool. August witnessed heatwave conditions, which continued through to mid-September. Harvesting began on the 24th September and the weather remained dry throughout most of October.
Marvellous Rieslings and Pinot Gris wines have been produced, alongside some exceptionally powerful Gewürztraminers. The best wines possess the structure and depth of fruit that will enable them to age gracefully over the next 5-10 years.
