In Alsace, a dry winter, followed by a dry spring, led some producers to start to worry about a drought, however the flowering took place in mid-June. Both July and August were quite cool, but September was long and sunny allowing the producers to make good wines from ripe, healthy grapes. The harvest began around the last week in September, although the official date was 4th October.
The weather in October was not so good unfortunately, so this will not be a great vintage for vendanges tardives or Selection de Grains Nobles.
All of the noble grape varieties have produced bright, fruit driven wines with good levels of alcohol and acidity as well as concentrated fruit flavours.
