Domaine Potel

Nicolas Potel made a name in the wine trade as a "Negociant", with wines made by Maison Nicolas Potel in Nuits St Georges. However Nicolas parted company with the business that bears his name, now owned by the Cottin brothers, in May 2009.

He began to operate his own wine domaine (Domaine Potel) based in Beaune in Burgundy, from the 2007 vintage. This business is entirely independent of the Cottin brothers.

The first vintage for Domaine Potel was in 2007 which Nicolas Potel has been building up through purchasing vineyards or agreeing farming contracts since 2005. As well as an attractive holding of St Romain Blanc, the domaine is based around red vineyards in Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune. From 2009 vineyards in Vosne Romanée and Nuits St Georges will come on stream.

The wines are made in an exciting new winery which has been converted from old cellars on the outskirts of Beaune. These have been renovated to HQE (Haute Qualité Environmentale) standards and the wines have been made as naturally as possible, avoiding chaptalisation, and are sealed with wax capsules. The cartons they are shipped in may well be equally biodegradable.
