Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier

Frédéric Mugnier is the fifth generation of his family at the Château de Chambolle-Musigny. He has been in charge since 1985 and since giving up his other job as a professional pilot in 1998, Frédéric Mugnier has produced a series of fine, fragrant and scintillating wines.

Frédéric's is the Slow Food approach to winemaking. Since 2004 his 4 hectares of Chambolle vineyards have been suplemented by 10 hectares of Nuits-St Georges, Clos de la Maréchale, always owned by the family but for the last 50 years on lease to J. Faiveley. A very fine new cellar has been built to accommodate this.

Since giving up his other job as a professional pilot in 1998 Frédéric Mugnier has produced a series of scintillating wines. His 2000s, while retaining the charm and approachability of the year, far out perform most wines of his colleagues and neighbours in that vintage.

	Medium Bodied, Dry, Red, Pinot Noir, Ready, but will improve, 13% alc. Fourches in this sense are gallows, which apparently used to hang in the vineyard. This combines the plumminess of Nuits-St Georges with the Chambolle-esque fragrance of a Mugnier wine. This is a delicious, approachable, soft-textured wine that will drink well between 2010 and 2016.
