Chateau Sainte Colombe

Chateau Sainte Colombe

The Côtes de Castillon is a fast improving Bordeaux appellation located directly east of St. Emilion. It is named after the town of Castillon-la-Bataille, the battle being that which brought an end to the Hundred Years War. Recently, the region has seen much investment from St-Emilion château owners attracted by the excellent growing conditions and the relatively cheap (in a Bordeaux context) price of land.

Château Sainte Colombe was purchased in 1998 by Dr Alain Raynaud, owner of Château Quinault l'Enclos, and Gérard Perse, owner of Château Monbousquet, Pavie-Decesse and Pavie. The vineyards are planted with 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines have a high average age of just under 40 years. These are early days but already the quality of the wines is a noticeable notch above most Côtes de Castillons. Without doubt, a property to watch in the near future.
