Voted the third best of all Champagne Houses (after Bollinger and Krug) in 2005 La Revue Des Vins De France, Jacquesson has really come of age.

Based in the evocatively named town of Dizy, just to the north of Epernay, the House is run by the Chiquet brothers (cousins of our own Gaston Chiquet). The brothers are long-term advocates of the modish philosophy of zero dosage: this is put to the test in extremis with the equally modish move to release late disgorged cuvées: the juxtaposition of minimal sugar and extended lees ageing has produced these, some of the purest and most poised of all Champagnes, showing at their very best in magnum of course!

These are very serious Champagnes with an emphasis on minerality and complexity of fruit. The wines have significant gravitas, are good food companions and age beautifully.

	Medium-Full Bodied, Brut, White, Champagne Blend, Drink now, Organic (Not certified/in conversion), 12% alc. Made from 39% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 36% Pinot Meunier, the 732 comes predominantly from the extensive but high quality 2004 vintage (21% of older Reserve wines added). After the rococco extravagance of the 2003-based 731, this is a more classic Jacquesson, its 3.5 g dosage providing a mineral foundation to the fine palate of crushed chalk, white peach and soft honey. La Maison Jacquesson is not averse to a little experimentation; and usually, as here, it gets it right. Terres Rouges is the name of a single vineyard, its name betraying distinctive ferrous soils, located just outside the village of Dizy on the hill leading up from Epernay towards the (so-called) Montagne-de-Reims. Both the Pinots are planted here but it is Pinot Meunier which has gone into this fascinating rosé, an atypical wine form a distinctly atypical year. MORE
