2010 Clos Blanc de Vougeot, 1er Cru, Domaine de la Vougeraie

Clos Blanc de Vougeot, 1er Cru, Domaine de la Vougeraie
This is the smallest crop to date from this fabulous vineyard, with just two-thirds of the volume made in 2009. As usual the nose is striking, almost floral and certainly with a steely edge. A full and rich, round mouthful with excellent balancing acidity to the generous finish.
Jasper Morris MW, Burgundy Director

Two recent trends which have been continued here by winemaker Pierre Vincent are a slight reduction in the amount of new oak, which now mostly comes from the local forest of Cîteaux, and a slight increase in the use of stems during vinification. The latter is subtly judged though, as there is very rarely any outright feel of the stems in the bouquet or on the palate. 2010 is a tiny crop here, averaging out at 24 hl/ha across the cellar but the wines are magically concentrated.

Clos Blanc de Vougeot, 1er Cru, Domaine de la Vougeraie
The 2010 Vougeot Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot emerges from a monopole site. The Clos Blanc is marked by its brilliant aromatic lift and energy. The aromas and flavors flesh out nicely to the deep, creamy finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. This is stunning set of wines from Pierre Vincent and Domaine de la Vougeraie. It is impossible to miss the attention to detail at this impeccably run domaine. No expense is spared. It takes 80 people to work the vineyards during harvest and another 20 in the cellar to take it from there. Production in 2010 was of course down significantly as it was everywhere else. Yields came in at 24 hectoliters per hectare for the Pinot and 29 for the Chardonnay. Vincent used between 30-80% whole bunches, depending on the wine. Readers who want to learn more might want to check out my video interview with Pierre Vincent on www.erobertparker.com. I will report on the domaine’s 2009s in the April issue. For now let me just say the 2009 Musigny is one of the wines of the vintage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Yes, in the zone. 10/15/2013 - My favorite white wine at the Wine & Spirits Tasting, here in San Francsico. No formal notes, but worthy of seeking out and critiquing in more detail. Also enjoyed discovering that a blanc Clos de Vougeot exists. Who knew? Experientially, I am reminded of discovering Domaine Henri Gouges's La Perriere Blanc, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru - a white NSG. Crazy good. 27 July 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by A crowd pleaser! Served at a small wedding breakfast alongside a number of other rather pleasant wines. This was the leader of the pack by a short nose. Full bodied, balanced with good acidity lovely citrus and a hint of apricots. Long finish. I wish there was more on offer! 24 July 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by crisp and delicious I served this at my son's 40th birthday party with an artichoke soup with truffles. Everyone was full of praise for this chardonnay. I look forward to keeping the rest of the case in order for it to mature. The taste was subtly floral with a hint of acidity which lingered in the mouth 08 January 2015
