Description

The fruit is sourced from sandy soils and cryo maceration is the primary technique used in the winemaking. The nose is clean and crisp with notes of pear, rose petal and star-anise. The palate is textured and generous with crisp acidity resulting in a balanced mouth-feel. A perfect accompaniment for all seafood or equally well suited to being consumed as an apéritif’.

About this WINE

Bodegas Garciarevalo

Bodegas Garciarevalo

Bodegas Garciarevalo is a family-owned and run company that is today managed by Antonio Arévalo, grandson of the founder. Its 40 hectares of vineyards are located in the heart of the Rueda region, with the modern winery being in Matapozuelos. The lion's share of the vineyards goes to old Verdejo bush vines, some of which are over 100 years old. Plantings of Tempranillo make up the balance.

High on the Castilian plateau in Western Spain, Rueda has had a long relationship with the temperamental Verdehlo grape. A fascinating and complex variety, Verdehlo has historically had an awkward tendency to oxidise and lose its aromatic charm. Only with the new generation of producers, of whom Antonio Arevalo at Garciarevao is a worthy ambassador, has its full potential been realised. This has been achieved by harnessing stainless steel technology and bottling the wines as early as possible. As a result, freshness is preserved and the inherent complexity is not jeopardised.

The Tres Olmos is made from 100% Verdejo and is a light, aromatic wine that is well balanced and displays appetising grassy and tropical fruit flavours. La Torrevieja is produced from 100% Tempranillo and is matured in American oak barrels for 18 months.

Verdejo

Verdejo

One of Spain's higher quality white grape varieties which languished in obscurity for several hundred years before being rediscovered 15 years ago. It is a native grape of Rueda in North-west Spain and is now its principal white grape variety. It is most successfully cultivated in high altitude vineyards where the soils are calcareous and well drained.

Previously Verdejo-based wines were worryingly prone to premature oxidation. However techniques including night-time harvesting, cool fermentation and the use of an inert gas blanketing have led to the delicate and youthful aromatic freshness of the wines being preserved. It is often blended with Sauvignon Blanc to add body and richness to Sauvignon's aromatic lift. Its finest manifestation is Rueda Superior, which must contain a minimum of 85% Verdejo.

Typically Verdejo dominated wines are crisp with soft, creamy, nutty overtones, and sometimes accompanied by notes of honey. Arguably Spain's finest white grape variety.
