About this WINE
Cortese
This white grape produces wines in the appellations of Cortese dell'Alto Monferrato, Colli Tortonesi as well as the DOCG wine of Gavi di Gavi. Cortese is a native grape variety of Alessandria in Piedmont and tends to perform best in the hills between Novi and Tortona in Piedmont. The grape has been so successful in Gavi (which is located in the south of Piedmont close to Liguria) that it is known there as Cortese di Gavi.
Typically produces wines that are pale lemon-white in colour, possess a fine fragrance and are steely and dry on the palate. The best examples can develop an intense honeyed richness with medium term ageing.

Description
True to its name, ‘Bric Sassi’, characterised by limestone white tufo soils high up and close to the Ligurian border, with the Mediterranean not far off, Roberto Sarotto’s Gavi del Comune di Gavi is almost ‘white’ stone in colour! There follows a naturally bright, pretty and prim white peach stone nose; the purity of the aromas captured by Roberto’s sensitive, whole-bunch pressing of the grapes to ensure only the most delicate notes are retained. Given the hot final couple of weeks in August ’12, there are some delicious honeydew and even Moscato-esque notes to wrap up the delicate, fragrant nose.
More medium bodied in 2012, with a richer texture of soft, silky juicy peachiness on the palate. The warmer 2012 vintage (for whites) has given this wine a sunnier, smoother disposition. It’s more ‘grasso’, and moreish too, culminating in a refreshing wet, white stone mineral dry finish that calls for some pistachios!
