Description

Hosted by Catherine Owen, Berry Bros. & Rudd Fine Wine Specialist

Burgundies need not have stratospheric prices to offer tremendous drinking pleasure and cellaring potential. While Burgundy’s wines are generally in short supply compared to their counterparts in Bordeaux, the lesser-known communes can offer, if not tremendous supply, at least excellent value and the potential for earlier drinking from similarly characterful and ‘terroir-driven’ interpretations of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape. Starting in the north and working our way south through the communes we taste both whites and reds with a view to spotting some lesser-known village appellations to choose for both table and cellar this summer.

Wines to be tasted:

2011 Saint-Bris, Domaine Alice & Olivier de Moor
2010 Ladoix, 1er Cru Les Gréchons, Sylvain Loichet
2010 St Romain Blanc, Sous le Chateau, Domaine Sébastien Magnien
2010 Santenay Blanc, Beaurepaire, 1er Cru, David Moreau 2010 Montagny 1er Cru, Maison Roche de Bellene
2010 Maranges, David Moreau 2010 Chorey-lès-Beaune, Sylvain Loichet
