Description

Hosted by Simon Field MW, Spain Buyer.

La Rioja Alta continues to be one of the benchmarks for traditionally produced Rioja wine. Established in 1890 at the same spot where their head office sits today, their three Reserva wine brands, Alberdi, Arana and Ardanza are named after the founding families, all three of which remain shareholders. The company still maintains traditional Rioja winemaking practices whilst embracing many of the new technological advances.
It is unusual for a great bodega of Rioja to own vineyards, but La Rioja Alta owna the 360ha from which they source top-quality grapes, resulting in excellent fruit and richness throughout their wines. Tempranillo dominates the plantings, complemented with a small proportion of Garnacha and Graciano vines. Come and taste this superlative selection in maturity.

Wines to be tasted include:

2008 Cave Gramona, Argent, Reserva Brut
2004 Viña Ardanza, Reserva, La Rioja Alta
1995 Gran Reserva 904, La Rioja Alta
1995 Gran Reserva 890, La Rioja Alta
1994 Gran Reserva 904, La Rioja Alta
1982 Gran Reserva 904, La Rioja Alta
1981 Gran Reserva 890, La Rioja Alta

N.B. Wines for this event have been chosen from Berry Bros. & Rudd’s historic stocks and may not be available to order following the event.

Napoleon Cellar Dinners

Napoleon Cellar Dinners

Join us at one of our popular Napoleon Cellar Dinners for a memorable evening of fine wine, fine cuisine and fine companyTucked away beneath our shop in the heart of central London, the cellars were once the largest working cellars in the capital. In 1999 they were converted to create London's most exclusive fine dining venue.

The impressive vaulted Napoleon Cellar (view virtual tour here) was so named after Napoleon III, who plotted his return to France here whilst in exile in England between 1838 and 1848.

Arrive at 6.30pm to a welcoming Champagne aperitif in our historic shop, before descending to the imposing Napoleon Cellar for a sumptuous four-course dinner and a myriad of fabulous wines. Throughout the evening your host and the wine estate’s representative will talk to you about the wines, sharing their knowledge and views, and helping you decide which you like best and why.

4 tickets maximum per customer (subject to availability)
