Description

Join Anne McHale MW in the Pickering Cellar tonight for an indulgent look at the great aged red wines of Europe. It is often said that humans are like great wine: we improve with age. Whether or not this is true for us, there is no doubt that great reds are meant to be aged. If we can be patient, the rewards are incredible. Simple youthful fruit, awkward tannins and dense, muted aromas morph into savoury complexity, a silky mouthfeel and an inviting and open bouquet. This is why Anne has put together a tasting for you focusing solely on aged reds. Each of tonight’s wines is at least 11 years old, and many are much older. She has picked examples of all the great classics of Europe, spanning Burgundy, Bordeaux, Italy, Spain and of course a Vintage Port. If you want to explore what rewards can be gained from the patient cellaring of red wine, then tonight is perfect for you.
