Welcome Berry Bros. & Rudd

Berrys' Own Selection Whiskies

Berrys' Own Selection Scotch Whisky comprises an extensive range of own-label bottlings of fine and rare Scotch malt and grain whisky.

Every cask has been selected by our own expert tasters and only exceptional whiskies deemed fit for inclusion make it into this range. All, almost without exception, are exclusive to Berrys; It's something for those 'in the know'!

Berry Bros. & Rudd has supplied fine spirits through our `Berrys' Own Selection' for well over a century, making Berrys one of the earliest Independent bottlers. By 1909, we were offering 1897 Macallan and 1885 Talisker by the gallon or dozen; fine and old Irish Whiskey in Sherry casks of 7, 14 and 28 gallons, to name a few.

This expression, despite relatively tender years, has a round and succulent aroma with citrus peel and shortbread showing. The palate is lively and clean, fattening with fruitiness, spice and chewy malt. The finish retains some juicy sweetness.

From the harbour town of the same name, Tobermory is the only distillery on the island of Mull. The nose is pleasantly plump, with some yellow fruit emerging in advance of mint and delicate peat-smoke. The palate offers light, buttery toast notes, finishing in a soft easy-going manner, as a little spice cuts in.

The small, almost boutique, Arran distillery at Lochranza in the north of the island was opened as recently as 1995, yet the spirit already has the feel and complexity of some long established brands. Golden eagles soar on the thermals over Goat Fell which towers behind the distillery. Arran is often referred to as Scotland in miniature such is the variety of the landscape. Emerging aromas of apple pie, shortbread and citrus emerge. The elegant sweet palate has good substance building with mandarin and subtle floral notes. A fine nutty, spicy finish balances the sweetness.

Glenlossie, founded in 1876 by John Duff, lies just to the south of Elgin. The distillery was rebuilt following a fire in 1929 and was later expanded from 4 to 6 stills. Mannochmore distillery was erected nearby in 1971. The 11-year-old cask strength release gives beautifully clean floral fruity and spicy notes with an element redolent of hot-cross buns. The grassy, malty flavours are backed by a sinewy texture. A spicy dry finale makes this a very suitably aperitif.

Dalmore distillery, located on the banks of the Cromarty Firth, was opened in 1839 by Alexander Matheson. The buildings look over the water to the fertile Black Isle and a nearby jetty, built by the US Navy when the distillery was appropriated during WWII is still referred to locally as the “Yankee Pier”. Distinguished with an immediate soda bread hit, some rum butter, glazed cherries and marzipan this malt packs punches beyond its years. The palate is sinewy and toasty, hugely malty, gristy and rich. The finish ebbs slowly with some liquorice and orange peel.

Craigellachie was founded in 1888 by Peter Mackie and Alexander Edwards. Mackie later went on to build the Lagavulin distillery on Islay. The distillery is situated very close to where the river Spey is spanned by Telford's famous bridge. This whisky is rarely found in bottle as most of the production contributes to blends. Delicate smoke emerges with buttered toast aromas. There is some fruit skin sweetness edged with biscuit notes. The palate is full and rounded giving bursts of succulence. A nutty, dry, malty finish completes the experience

Bruichladdich is by Islay standards a gentler sort of Malt Whisky although it carries traits of the Island’s noted peaty, saline style and is no lightweight in terms of balance and complexity. This expression delivers aromas of honey and nuts, peach skins and perhaps banana sandwiches. The palate balances salty notes against the evident soft fruit eventually giving some grip from the oak as it subsides to reveal a refreshing, appetising savoury finale.

Berrys' Own Selection Glen Grant Speyside

70cl £33.15
$65.64

Glen Grant was the first distillery in the town of Rothes, situated in the heart of Speyside. The Whisky is highly regarded by blenders and Malt enthusiasts alike. Founded in 1840 by the brothers John and James Grant, the distillery boasts ornate gardens created by the latter’s son. The nose yields honey, nuts and peach skin with a hint of wood smoke. The mouth-feel is unctuous with layers of fruit and spice sparring for dominance. A remarkable, lingering sweet and spicy finish rounds off the experience.
