Bollinger

The Champagne House of Bollinger was established in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger and Paul Renaudin. Over the years the vineyard holdings have been steadily increased with the largest expansion taking place under the stewardship of the legendary Mme Lily Bollinger. She ran the company between 1941 and 1977 and today it is managed by her great-nephew, Ghislain de Montgolfier.

Bollinger has a reputation for producing muscular champagns with body, depth and power, and is today considered one of thethe "Great" Champagne houses.

70% of the grapes come from the firm's own vineyards. 80% of the harvest is barrel-fermented with the wines being kept on their yeast lees for an extended period of time (in the case of the RD, around 10 years).

Bollinger produces classic, complex, Pinot-Noir dominated champagnes with the ability to age gracefully for many years.

	Medium-Full Bodied, Brut, White, Champagne Blend, Drink now, 12% alc. This is an oak fermented wine, yes, but not the usual angular, quite taut Bollinger at this stage of its development. Instead a soft and creamy wine, with a luxurious and sumptuous texture, a fine and beautifully elegant mousse and hints of brioche and hazelnut to complement the fruit. It's ripe, expressive and faithful to the vintage. Grand Cru fruit, 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay, has been sourced from famous vineyards in the villages of Aÿ, Verzenay and Cuis. 	Full Bodied, Brut, White, Champagne Blend, Ready, but will keep, 12% alc. Bollinger were the first successfully to market the Late Disgorged concept; indeed they imposed a trademark on the RD (Récemment Degorgée) nomenclature, leaving imitators linguistically taxed in their wake. Rather more controversial is their philosophy of multiple releases of the same wine: Some RD 95 was disgorged in, say 2006, but this particular batch was disgorged in late 2007. Enigma variations on them? Who can say? What we can say its that this is an incomparable expression of a rich Pinot Noir- dominated , oak fermented Champagne, its savoury complexity harmoniously integrated with its low (3gr) residual sugar.
