Jasper Morris was a tender 23-year-old when he fell in love with Burgundy. After nearly three decades living and breathing the region’s wine, he has gathered all his knowledge and experience together in a comprehensive, 656 pages handbook, Inside Burgundy, available from BB&R Press.
It won the 2010 André Simon Wine Book Prize. Its English-language edition – priced at £50/$75 – has sold around the world, and a Japanese edition was published by Hakusuisha in October 2012. Chinese and French editions are also in preparation.

"The idea for Inside Burgundy had been percolating over the years, with all the information I’d been gathering as Berrys’ wine buyer for Burgundy. I’ve witnessed a really exciting time for Burgundy. When I started, the individual producers, the small domaines, were many, many fewer than they are today and people in export markets were still mostly buying from the big companies.
I came in just at the moment of that change. There are now many more people making really good quality red Burgundy than was the case 30 years ago. You only had one or two per village and now you’ve got half a dozen or so to choose from.
It is really aimed at people who enjoy drinking Burgundy and would like to know more about it. There may be a few other people who will read it and become converted – that would be marvellous – but the target market is all those people out there who spend their money on good Burgundy.
A few of them will sit down and read every word, others will use it for reference; they want to check a vintage, they want to check a vineyard, they want to check a producer."
