Les Vignes Oubliées is a small domaine in the village of Saint Privat in the Terraces du Larzac appellation owned by Jean-Baptiste Granier. Jean-Baptistes great passion is locating and renovating plots of very old vines which have often been abandoned high up on the slopes around the village. The vineyards, which are sometimes co-planted with 2 grape varieties, are located at an altitude of 300 to 400 meters which means that they are kept relatively cool in this hot Mediterranean climate. They are small plots surrounded by shrubs and woodland which can also offer protection from wind and promote good biodiversity in the vineyard. Trained under the watchful eye of the famed Olivier Jullien, Jean-Baptiste set up this project with the help of his mentor and the grapes are grown organically as they are at Mas Jullien. The resulting wines are rich and complex but both Jean-Baptiste’s lightness of touch and the great schist-based terroir both contribute to a lovely freshness in the wines which makes them hard to not go back to.
