2020 Chablis, Montmain, 1er Cru, Domaine Pinson Frères, Burgundy

Description

These vines are nearly the estate’s oldest, planted in 1956. The soil has clay, retaining water even in dry summers like 2020. The nose has a spicy, earthy reduction; the palate is fresh and vigorous with a pleasing breadth of stone-fruit flooding the palate. The finish is zesty and grippy, with a hint of creamy, toasty oak. Drink 2024-2035.

Critics reviews

Jasper Morris MW 89-92/100
Mid lemon colour, with a light reductive character on the nose, rather hiding the sense of nobility. Good tension, crystalline marine notes on the one hand, cooked stones on the other, with some length. Slightly conflicting signals at the moment, doubtless to be resolved later.

Burgundy is Chardonnay's spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvellous poise, elegance and balance. They are unquestionably the finest dry white wines in the world. Chardonnay plays a crucial role in the Champagne blend, providing structure and finesse, and is the sole grape in Blanc de Blancs.
