Jacky Blot runs Domaine de la Taille aux Loups in in Montlouis and Domaine de la Butte in Bourgeuil. Domaine de la Butte is located half-an-hour's drive west of Tours, in the appellation of Bourgueil , whose south-facing "ice age" terraces comprise a well-drained soil of sandy gravel & limestone pebbles. At the top of the slope lie purer limestone rock, and it is from here that `Le Haut' comes.
Already in the wine business before making wine himself , Jacky Blot started 15 years ago with buying vineyards in Montlouis. He employs a late harvest by `tri' to gather the best, ripest fruit, and vinifies his various crus according to their geological profile. He crafts impressive Chenin Blanc wines in Montlouis and Vouvray, whilst his 100% Cabernet Franc La Haut de la Butte in Bourgeuil comes from vines planted in 1997, lovingly raised in an unofficially organic setting.
Two-thirds of the fermentation takes place in 70hl wooden, a third in barriques. The wines are supple, gently couching the roll of juicy, fleshy red/black fruit on the palate, while the nose is beautifully clean, ripe and still quite dense.
