The Jansz vineyard in the Piper's River region of the Australian island of Tasmania was originally planted in 1975.
In 1986 the owners, Heemskerk, were joined by Champagne house Roederer in a joint venture. Roederer recognised this cool-climate region as perfect for the production of top quality traditional method sparkling wines. The vineyards are planted with all three Champagne grapes, but the Pinot Meunier will soon be replaced with more Pinot Noir, as Pinot Noir produces better quality wine here.
Under the current owners, Yalumba, and the watchful eye of winemaker Natalie Fryar, Jansz continues to go from strength to strength, producing ever more complex and delicious wines.
