Chateau Les Grands Chenes

Chateau Les Grands Chenes

Château Les Grands Chênes is a leading Médoc Cru Bourgeois property that is now producing wines comparable in quality to many 4éme and 5éme Cru Classé châteaux. It is located at Saint-Christoly-De-Médoc in the far north of the Médoc appellation. It can trace its history back to the 14th century, although its past was generally undistinguished until 1981 when Jacqueline Gauzy-Darricade acquired it. She extensively replanted many of the vineyards as well as investing heavily in a new winery.

The property consists of 7 hectares of vineyards located on gravel rich soil close to the Gironde Estuary. The wine is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and is matured in small oak barrels (one-third new) for 15-18 months. Celebrated oenologist Jacques Boisssenot is a consultant and the wines are now renowned for their depth of fruit and complexity. The wines remain very keenly priced.
