1989 Alsace

A very fine vintage which witnessed the greatest-ever production of Vendages Tardives and SGN wines. The summer was hot and exceptionally dry and the little rain that fell during September came as welcome relief to growers. The harvest began on September 27th and the weather remained fine throughout.

The dry whites displayed excellent concentration of aroma and flavour but the acidity was on the low side and they have not aged as well as the 88s. The late-harvest wines are sumptuously rich and powerful yet beautifully well balanced.
