A marvellous vintage for most Australian wine regions. In South Australia growing conditions were close to ideal, with cooler than average temperatures in the summer slowing the ripening process down. There was then a spell of very warm and dry weather in the autumn and very ripe and healthy grapes were harvested. The reds are full-bodied and powerful in the traditional Australian style, while very high quality Rieslings and Chardonnays were also produced.
The year was very suucessful in Victoria. Yields were on the high side, but the wines are concentrated and well structured. In Western Australia some excellent wines were produced in Margaret River, although the quality falls short of the 1991s.
